Cringing, craving, bingeing, braving... you always have an opinion on what's hot and what's not in your city and we just love to hear it. Besides, there's no better place to satiate that itch to bitch!
Recently re-visited 64 on a saturday night after a gap of few months and realized quite a bit had changed since both in the offering and ambience. There's a subtle change in the name - now branded Sixty Four instead of 64 with the tagline changed too. The place no longer offers a full-bar, only beer and wine's available now (the owner sadly told us that they got arm-twisted by the license owner in giving it up. The lighting and mood of the main-level has been changed to give a more pub-like feel while the mezzanine and terrace still retain the bistro-feel of yore. Food menu's changed too with few... read more
i usually haunt Kaayal for lunch but recently took a friend visiting from Delhi for dinner who was in mood for so no-nonsense mallu food. Got in past 10 PM but the place was nicely full with the week-night crowd winding up their meal. They had only a limited choices available but still they scurried up a fiely fish curry and the house special beef roast for us with some malabar paronthas and fluffy and soft appams. Strangely found out that they don't serve rice in the evenings (the server claimed very few patrons rice in the evenings). The fare, as usual, was simple, filling and delicious and... read more
If Mr Hogg went exploring around the word at the pace his name-sake restaurant serves, i'm afraid he wouldn't really've gotten around much. Was working from home last friday, so decided to take the opportunity to visit the place for lunch with wife and kids. The place was full of big office groups out for friday lunch but found one empty table. The menu had a wide selection of conti / indian/ oriential/mexican fare, which always makes me suspicious and wary. Anway, we went ahead and ordered. The salad came in relatively quick time but then the wait began. After multiple reminders to the staff... read more
Ambled into 64 the previous sunday for lunch and instead of the usual crooner who sings some country and oldies found this duo doing a great set of blues. Apparently that the band was visiting from bombay and returning the next day, since the big IPL final was scheduled in the evening, the performance was being held in the afternoon. Shame that not many people were aware of it as the act was great - called 'the Naina Kundu project' with Naina on vocals (big voice that belies her petite frame) and the eccentric and brilliant floyd fernandez on bass. Since i wasn't going anywhere, ordered the... read more

Had visited the place few months ago on hearing about its 'different' ambiance and setting. Found it to be way too over the top and kitsch for my taste with the service and food leaving much to be desired too. Had some out of town friends over last who're inclined towards over-the-top places so hazarded a visit again. Unfortunately, the experience was even worse that the last. Started on a bizarre note, when the server gallantly offered use their prize table that had couch chairs slung from the ceiling as swings. Politely declining the 'swinging' dining experience, settled for the regular grounded... read more
